I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been election crazy over here. I thoroughly admit I’ve been binge-watching CNN for the last 8 weeks. While we make our home in Canada, everyone in this house is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada! So, this morning, I woke up and couldn’t help feeling a little more than festive! I challenged myself to jog my fastest 5k ever [it worked!]. I dressed up a little bit [in blue and white]. I talked excitedly to the kids about our plans for an election party tonight! Because, in a few hours, the U.S. may have its very first female president elect! Regardless of your political affiliations, you’ve got to regard this as a momentous occasion! As my aunt Peg always helps to remind me, I share the same birthday with Susan B. Anthony. Women’s rights as voters and citizens have never been out of mind! So, yes, we’re all ready to “turn up the volume” when we get home from Toby’s grade six piano recital [another milestone, you’re telling me!] and have an impromptu election party. Yup! That’ll be us ordering uber-eats. [We’re leaning towards Detroit-style Descendant pizza.] And, alongside the ‘za we’ll be having a little celebratory cocktail or two.
So, here’s my contribution to the festivities, a brand new cocktail [based on a restaurant fave of mine] called The White Pantsuit. This is a protein-topped, frothy white beauty with a touch of festive pink [or rose gold, if you’re as rose gold obsessed as I am] to send one clear message: IT’S ABOUT TIME, LADIES! Whatever your party, I hope you’ll be toasting with me tonight! So, Cheers, Susan B. Anthony! And, cheers, with any luck, to the first female to run [and win!] as her party’s nominee for president! Oh, and once you’ve made a White Pantsuit for yourself, you should probably go and read Kerry Clare’s amazing post on victory cake, because, well, everything.
The White Pantsuit
Makes 1 cocktail, mix may be multiplied for a crowd
50 ml Dillon’s Rose Gin [or any other Gin]
25 ml St. Germain Elderflower liquer
25 ml Lemon Juice [about 1/2 a lemon]
25 ml Simple Syrup, Elderflower Syrup or Pure Maple Syrup [our preference, naturally]
1 Dash of Angostura Bitters
1 Egg White
Several Cubes of Ice [optional]
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail mixer and shake vigorously.
Strain and serve in the victory glass of your choosing.
Oh, do you need a recipe card for that?
