Tried It, Loved It : Beyography

Tried It Loved It Beyography - September Unplugged - The Lunchbox Season

One of the ways I vowed to indulge amidst the back to school chaos was to take a dance class. So, I signed up for a Saturday session at Toronto’s Beyography. Beyography offers two-hour choreo classes devoted to Beyoncé and her “sphere” – i.e. everybody from NKOTB to Brittany and Xtina. I took one of the courses offered at the gorgeous Steps Studio [819 Yonge Street, 3rd Floor], which has amazing floors, flattering mirrors, and huge windows with a great view of Yonge Street North. Over the course of two short hours, we learned and performed choreography for Destiny’s Child’s “Bootylicious.”

Not this, exactly:

But, just as fabulous, darling!

The Beyography “Bootylicious” class was amazing. Aside from a few cardio dance classes at my former gym and the guy and girl youtubers I sometimes shake it with on rainy days, I haven’t really done much serious dancing since high school. But, I was surprised how easily I picked it up. Of course, this was because of the fabulous Nicky, choreographer and teacher. [Classes are open to all levels from beginner to advanced, by the way.] Nicky taught us the dance in sets of 8 and practiced them with us repeatedly until everyone felt comfortable with the moves. Then, we performed the choreo for whole song several times over before calling it a day.

Here’s a little snippet of our rehearsal from the @beyographytoronto Instagram account

This was, by far, one of the best workouts I’ve had in years, seeing as it didn’t feel like work at all. It was just what I needed to forget about everything else and to just let loose! I’ll be going back soon! Who wants to come with?

Beyography offers two-hour dance classes in Toronto. Courses are $20 each. Multi-course passes may also be available. Private group lessons can be arranged for friends’ groups or corporate events

This is not a sponsored post! I paid for the class myself and received no discount or gratuity.
