Apple Picking Peking Duck 2015


Happy October 2015!

It’s time to celebrate with Apple Picking Peking Duck!

On Saturday, we went on our annual pilgrimage to Applewood Farm and Winery. It was quite a cold and windy day, so we had a shorter trek into the orchards to pull Spartans and Cortlands for our Thanksgiving pies and Fall lunchboxes. But, it was a super-fun, focused adventure. [Thank goodness we grabbed the wool blankets we picked up at the Scottish Shop in Stratford!]  We also picked up some amazing butternut squash from which I plan to make a few batches of the old cheater’s curry

Of course, for us, apple picking also means PEKING DUCK! We went back to the restaurant we tried last year, Peaktop Cuisine, in Markham, Ontario, for an absolutely stellar meal. Not only is their Two-Course Peking Duck the bomb [go for the lettuce wrap for the second bit!], they also make some absolutely amazing dim sum apps and main dishes. This year, Toby got excited about the Deep Fried Squid “Claw.” Bea raved over both the Spring Rolls and the Shrimp Dumplings. And the parents indulged in the Eggplant and Shrimp in Sichuan Sauce as well as the Green Beans and Pork. [Not a bad way to celebrate the end of our Whole30 the day previous and to indulge before the beginning of another one next week!]
