We always have a film festival on Fridays in advent. Last week, you’ll notice, we snuck in our movies under the guise of our Tree-Trimming party. This week, it’s on to something that’s become a tradition in our house, holiday mysteries. The Thin Man movies are often a holiday favourite of ours. The kids absolutely adore Nick, Nora and Asta and their holiday adventures. So, we thought we’d broaden their horizons by showing the kids one of the best films ever made, The Maltese Falcon. And we’re pitting the Falcon’s Sam Spade up against two very different Philip Marlowes. Like the Maltese Falcon’s search for the ever elusive missing object, Murder My Sweet also begins with a search, this time, for a jade necklace. The Lady in the Lake is a classic missing person’s case, set, in part, on Christmas Eve! [Talk about alternative Christmas Movies!] To go with our triple feature, we’ll be ordering Chinese Food and reading each others’ fortunes in deep, mysterious voices.
What are some of your more unusual holiday movie choices?
