Today, we are going to design a series of Christmas Cards to send to our loved ones. We had so much fun with our art-inspired stories yesterday, that we decided to stick with our interests in art and attempt portraits of Santa in the style of the masters….
By taking a closer look at the portraits and sketches above, I’ll have the kids identify what they consider to be the style of Modigliani [top center and top right], Kahlo [top left and middle left], Etrog [bottom left and bottom centre] and Klee [middle right and bottom right]. Then, they will attempt a drawing of a Santa in a similar style. I will encourage them to create colourful, elongated Santas à la Modigliani, a Santa or a Mrs. Santa with a favourite animal on a shoulder or with someone “in mind” à la Kahlo, nuts & bolts sketches towards a Santa sculpture à la [their favourite] Etrog, and line drawings à la Klee. We’ll then take the drawings and scan them into the computer so that we can print them onto card-stock and send them to family over the holiday season.
