UNARMED TRUTH and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, The Women’s March on Washington : Toronto

If you made it all the way down to the bottom of my last post of 2016, you might have read that I’m taking a 6-8 week hiatus from posting on The Lunchbox Season in order to collect my thoughts and ideas and to strategize about how to move forward. After more than six years at work on both Summer of Funner and The Lunchbox Season, it’s a well needed break. Above all, the point of this hiatus is to identify my passions and to decide if and how I can better incorporate them into my work online. But, with that in mind, I need to take a pause from taking a pause to share with you what I plan to be doing with family this weekend.

On Saturday, January 21, 2017, all around the globe, women and those who love them will be gathering together to resist hate. The official mission of the Women’s March on Washington, D.C. is as follows:

We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families – recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.

Toronto is one of the many cities joining in solidarity with this movement.  And, I wanted to take a moment to encourage all of you, EVERYONE, to take part in this historic event!

MAKE A SIGN or HOST A SIGN-MAKING PARTY!

Bring out your creative energy! The Toronto group is organizing a sign/banner making session on Thursday, January 19 from 7-9p.m. at the United Steel Workers Hall at 25 Cecil St. Toronto. Bring your own supplies!

If you need a little inspiration or simply want to copy and paste, the Amplifier Foundation offers free downloads of posters designed for the Women’s March on Washington. You can access the posters by clicking here.

Or, why not host a sign-making party of your own? You might take your cue from the fabulous women of Plenty Magazine by reading What to Serve For Dinner on the Eve of Revolution! The hostess, in this case, is asking her invited guests to bring pads and tampons to donate to a local charity as the “price” of admission.
